PROJECT CHALLENGES

They are hiring agile software engineers with a passion for good clean code to work in an agile/XP environment. You would need to be comfortable with pair programming and experience in TDD and continuous integration/delivery is preferred.

The role will involve mainly doing Java development. They have bits of Clojure and JavaScript in their stack as well. You will work on both a polyglot microservice stack and a highly scalable Java stack. You’ll work across the entire stack and infrastructure, including internal and external APIs, enterprise distributed systems, services and tools, in both Java 7 and Java 8. They are currently looking to grow their product globally. This is obviously exciting for people who are motivated by scale, complexity and impact on the world.

Over the last few months they have added React in to the picture. Their UI is now rewritten in it, so although this is a Java developer position there is a chance to learn/work with React too.

COMPANY CULTURE

They were the London based startup who revolutionised commerce by offering delivery in just minutes or at the time of the customer’s choice. They are post-startup now and were actually acquired by one of the most respected tech companies in the world. So it will be like working in a startup kind of environment but having the added benefit of knowing you are backed by one of the most prestigious tech companies in the world.

What really separates them is their culture – they have regular hack days, internal open source projects that people are encouraged to get involved in and everyone is encouraged to work from home 1 day a week. They really do look after the team – things like free breakfast, free massages and free lunches every second Friday. They also offer a generous 10% bonus and stock options.
